February 8 to March 27, 1865

February 8th, 1865. Camp 11th Pa Cav. Near Richmond VA
Mother is doing very well and he is also well. He doesn't know when he will be home and feels unfortunate in getting favors granted to him so he never expects anything but disappointment when he applies. It has been cold but there is always some weather this time of the year.

February 17th, 1865. Camp 11th Pa Cavalry. Near Richmond VA
He has been out and suffered much from the cold these last two weeks. The Rebs do not bother them much now and there is very little excitement.

Maggie is thinking of taking a position at the Treasury Dept. He advises her to look into it carefully first.

A short note - he has a lot of writing to do every day as he is still Acting Adjutant.

February 27th, 1865. Camp 11th Penn Cavalry. In the Field VA
He has had his leave of absence approved and will start home when relieved as Adjutant in 3-4 days. It is a sure thing as he has his leave of absence in his pocket.

March 26th, 1865. Camp 11th Pa Cav.
He has been home and parting was very hard. All surplus baggage has been sent to Norfolk and he should not have brought anything back with him. He will send it back home as he can only have things to carry on his back and a change of underclothes.

He has packed all his things in the trunk and sent them to Uncle John. He has sent her the key to the trunk and $50.00 by Adams Express.

He has been made Captain of Co. "E" since he came back and everything about here is excitement.
