My Dear Wife

We returned from our expedition all Safe.  i received your letter last night and I was very glad to hear that you and Lizzie was Still injoying good health as this leaves me at present.  we had a very rough time of it while we was out.  we Sufferd much from the Severity of the weather.  it has been very cold for this last two weeks.

I am glad to hear that Mother is improving and I hope She will Soon be well again.  Maggie  I have no news to send  the Rebs do not bother us much and there is very little excitement just now.

You Spoke about getting a position in the treasury Department.  that is Something I know nothing about.  I think before you make the Application for a place in the treasury Department you had better know more particulars the nature of the business at this Department.  perhaps you would not like it So well as you think you would  but you may use your own pleasure.  as for me I am the Same as when I left home three years ago.

I must now close hoping these few lines will find you and Lizzie injoying the Best of health.

Give my love to all the family

My Best Love to you
I am as Ever
Your Affectionate Husband
Wm Lancaster
