My Dear Wife

I arrived in Camp last night with a Sad heart.  Maggie  it was very hard to part with you and when I left you at the depot for my life I could not speak.  I was almost overcome with greaf.  but Maggie  I cannot tell you how I felt and I hope that god will guide and protect me that I may be able to return home in good time to my Wife and child

When I got to Camp the Regiment was out.  but they have returned to camp this afternoon.  all of the surpluss Baggage has been Sent to Norfolk to be Stored away  I am Sorry that I brought So many things with me for now that we are about to take the feild they are of no use to me for all I can carry with me is what I can put on my back and change of under cloths.  I do not Know what I Shall do with them  perhaps I will Send them home if I get a chance for I would not like to loose them.

Dear Maggie  try and be chearful  perhaps it is all for the best.  I am very Sorry that I should be the means of so much Sorrow and Wretchedness to you.  and I pray to God that this will be the last time that I will have to part from you on this World.  I cannot write any more to day but I will write again in a day or two

Give My Love to Lizzie  Mother  Jane and all the family.

My Very Best Love to you
