From Annapolis the regiment moved by transport via sea to Camp Hamilton at Fortress Monroe (now designated Fort Monroe) located at Old Point Comfort near Hampton, Virginia. For the next six months a thorough course of instruction and drill was followed, and some experience acquired in scouting and picket duty.
