Suffolk Va March 2d 1863

My Dear Wife

i write to you to inform you that i am well and i hope these few lines will find you in good health and spirits  the reson i write today is because i am going on Picket tomorrow and i will be on Picket for 7 days and i wount have a chance to write during that time  i expect to reieve a letter from you in one day or two  your letters will reach me when i am on Picket as well as when i am in camp

Dear Maggie  i have no news to send you  the wether down here has been very rough this last week  but today the sun has come out Bright and clear  i hope we shall have it fine for this next ten days for i will have to be out in it all

last saturday being the last of the month we was musterd for pay  the Government now owe us 4 months pay but there is no telling when we will receive our pay.

Dear Wife  i hope this letter will find you and little Lizzie injoying the best of health and Spirites.  i would like very much to be at home with you but the time is long yet  almost one year and half  but it will come round as the last 18 months has gone away  it Looks a long time to me for the time goes slowly by to me

i have nothing new to tell you today  hoping that you are well
