February 25, 1863

Suffolk Va Feb 25th 1863

My Dear Wife

i received your Ever kind letter tonight and i was very glad to hear that you was well as this leaves me at present.  i also recieved that pretty Valentine you sent me as a token of Love  it was very exceptable and very Beautyful  i have nothing to send you for a valentine so i must send you my Love  i am glad to hear that Lizzie is well again

in your letter you said you had a Storm in Phila and i can tell you we had a very severe snow and Rain Storm  and what made it worse we was out in it  all our Company started on a Scout on Saturday morning at 5 oclock  we started for North Carolina  when we got about 20 miles from Suffolk it commenced to blow and Rain  then it commenced to freeze and snow  and what with mud up to the sterrups and cold and wet you may know what we sufferd for 3 days and nights for  it was nine oclock Monday night when we got back to Camp Suffolk  it was one of the severest storms we have had this winter

Dear Maggie  in one of your letters you spoke about the plesures we should injoy when this war is over and we are liveing togather in a house of our own

Dear Wife  i often think of it myself and i do long for that happy time to come  for i will know what it is to have a home after being a Soilder so long

Dear Wife  i have no more to say tonight  Give my love to Jane  Mother and all the Family
