Williamsburg Va April 8/64

My Dear Wife

i received your very kind and welcome letter last night and i was very glad to hear that you and Lizzie was still injoying good health as this leaves me at present.

Dear Wife  since i last wrote to you i have been promoted  i am now 2d Lieutenant Co E  i was appointed last week  So your Husband is now a Commissioned officer.  dont it make you feel Big

but i have to ask a Great favor of you  i am out of money and i have to buy some articles which i cannot do without.  and if you oblige me by Sending me fifty Dollars $75.00 you will be doing me a great favor and i promise to Pay it back with interest.  My Pay will now be increased considerable by the Promotion but i have got to buy my own Rig now  after i get my new Rig i shall be able to send you more money then i have done heretofore.

Dear Maggie  try and send it as soon as you get this  if you think it not safe to send it by mail you can send it by Adams Express

Dear Maggie  i have not time to write any more before the mail leaves for Yorktown but i will write again  Perhaps tomorrow. Give my Love to all the family
