My Dear Wife

i received your very kind and welcome letter yuesterday and i was very glad to hear that you was still injoying good health as this leaves me at present  i am still living and injoying good health

i am glad to hear that the Baby is so good  i think that you have it rather hard in the Mill  it must be very tiresome to work all day and then go home to nurse at night

Dear Maggie  i often think of you when i am on my lonely picket Post at Midnight and i often wonder what you are doing and if you are thinking of me.  we are on Scouting duty very often now  we came in yuesterday after being out (missing)

the Rebels are getting pretty close to Pennsylvania and i think that if our Army is not able to whip them now they will never be able to whip them  and i think if they dont strike while the iron is hot the Union is gone forever  but perhaps things may turn out for the best  at least i always hope for the Best.  as you say in your letter that you would love to see me once more at home  i am just as ancous

when one is hard up for when money is gone Friends are also gone  i am very glad that you have got along so well as you have  but you have a good Spirit that is independent and you can forget (garbled)  i would like to help you more than i have done but i have done the best i could do under the Circumstances  and i know that you are Satisfyed with me  i have no more to say at present  give My Best respects to all of your Family and to all (missing)
