My Dear Wife

i received your very kind and welcome letter and i was very glad to hear that you was still injoying good health as this leaves me at present

as yet we keep quiete down here but it may be noisey enough for us some of these days. it appears by your letter that west Philadelphia has been pretty well drained of men for the war but i suppose there is plenty of sick and wounded Soilders about

this is a very Changable war  the Rebels and us are pretty well matched for they gain as many Victorys as we do and sometimes they show better management  for i think they have the best Generals and smarter Officers then ours are  Our officers are to slow and careless to beat the Rebels who fight with all of there might and strength. where a good many of our Generals dont care wether they fight or not or wether they win or lose  but the war will not last always  it must come to a close sometime and i think before long

in your letter i received the Postage Stamps and the One Dollar note which was all welcome  i have no news to send  everything is quiete

Dear Maggie  i do not know that i am in want of anything at present  i have plenty of clothing for the winter  my gum Blanket is good yet and if i am in want of anything i will be sure to let you know  but at present i am pretty well Provided for in the Clothing line at present

Dear Wife  i know that you would do anything for me that lays in your Power and if i live to come home i will try and be as good to you for i realy do love you and i would like very to see Lizzie for i think she must be a pretty child  i have no more to say at present  give her a Kiss for me
