Suffolk July 15th 1862

My Dear Wife

I received your welcome letter on Saturday last just as i was saddled up for a Scout  we started on Saturday afternoon and we have just now arrived in camp  i am very tired  we have had a very long journey  we travled both night and day while we was gone but we did not Catch any Rebels except 1 Captain and 3 Privates  we took them at Smithfield

the weather down here has been very hot this last 3 weeks  a great deal hotter that i ever felt it in Philadelphia  it makes the sweet Bail out of any one  but withstanding the heate we was on four Scouts last week besides this one  we have just come of and it is very tiresome work when it is followed up to

Dear Maggie  i expect we will stop in Suffolk for some time yet and while i am here i want you to send me 2 shirts  2 pair drawers  1 neck tie  1 fine tooth comb  and in the satchell i sent home there was two pieces of yallow tape which i want you to send  You may send me a couple of Pocket Handkercheafs  You can send them by Adams express  it comes up to Suffolk  You can put them up in a package or in a Box  if you will send them to me send them as soon as you can for i dont know how long i may stay here  while you are sending the Box you might Put in a few goodies for we get nothing to eate down here but Dry Bread and salt meat. i expect that we shall be paid in about a week or two  we was musterd for pay on the last day of June. when you send the Box put a couple of Pieces of fancy soap and i think that will be all i am in want of at present

Dear Wife  i have no news to send you  everything about here is very quiete  Maggie i very often in fact all of the time i am thinking of you and i am wishing for the time when i shall be again a free man  and i hope we will be able to spend the rest of our days in happyness and peace

i must now close my letter  Give my best respects to your Mother  Jane and all the family and all inquiring Friends
