Suffolk July 22d 1862

My Dear Wife

I received your letter just now. i have just returned from a Scout in North Carolina and i am very tired  we started from Camp Monday morning at 3 oclock  we went as far as sonbery where we came across a band of Gurellas  we captured 8 of them and scouted the country until this evening we arrived in camp.

the kind of shirts i want you to send me is woolen  the days are so warm and hights are cool and damp and woolen shirts are the best  so you must send me woolen shirts  if you please  i want you to send me 1 tin cup  1 tin plate and 1 spoon  dont forget to send me 1 fine tooth comb and a couple of Handkertcheafs and a neck tie  and i think that is all i will want at present

i have no more to say at present  it is late and i must close

Give my Respects to Mother  Sister Jane and all the family and all inquiring Friends
