My Dear Wife

I am very happy to inform you that i have heard from Brother William.  Barnum Wilcox who was captured at the same time with William has been Paroled and Sent to Annapolis on account of being sick.  he has wrote to me and informed me that when he last saw William he was in the Best of health and he has been Sent to Georga  so he is still alive and you may hope to see him before a great while and it will be great satisfaction to your Mother to Know that he is alive and well

Dear Maggie  i received your kind letter the other day and i was very glad to hear that you was well.  i have had a hard time of it since i have been back from the Hospital  we have been on the Weldon Rail Road nr Reams Station and we have been fighting evry day  i have lost 7 of my company wounded  1 who has since died  we come back here yuesterday and i am now on Picket on the left of Grants Army

i must now close  Give my love to all the family  i hope Lizzie is all right.
