Near Portsmouth Aug 5th 1863

My Dear Wife

since i wrote the other day i have not had chance to Post it so i thought i would let you know the cause of my not writing sooner.  for as soon we arrived in camp at Bowers Hill our Rigement was ordred to move camp nearer to Portsmouth and everything has been upside down for this last 3 days and we are not settled yet  our company goes on Picket in the morning.  the weather continues Very Hot but another month or two will make it cool enough

Dear Wife  i have no news to send  i am in the Best of health and i hope this will find you injoying the same Blessing

My Dear Wife  i have no more to add at present  Give my Love to all the Family

My Very Best Love to you  i am as Ever
