My Dear Wife

i received one letter from you yuesterday and also one today and i am very glad to hear that you are again cheerful again for it greaves me to hear tell of you being down hearted.  i was down to Norfolk the other day and i called at Adams Express and got the money.  our Regement was paid two months pay today  i have had a good many things to get  i will not Send any money home this pay day but i will make up for it after a while.

Dear Wife  in your letter you asked my advice as to what you Should do  weather you should go home or not  My advice is that you do that which you think is the best and most convinent for yourself and child.

Dear Maggie  you do not know how much your two last letters have cheered me up  i felt kind of bad after receiving your first letter after my Appointment.  but i feel moore cheerful and content since i received your letter today.  You Said in your letter that you had a narrow escape from being hurt by the explosion of the Boilers and i think it was very fortunate no one was Killed by the Explosion

Speaking of Miss McDonald  i thought She had forgot me by this time  You must Remember me to her with my kind Respects.  Brother William is in the best of health but he has no notion of Reinlisting  i think he will be sure to come home next Summer.  Joe West has not Reinlisted and i am pretty Sure that he will not.

but i must bring this to a close  Give My love to all the family

My Very Best Love to you
i am as Ever
Your Affectionate Husband
Wm Lancaster
