Gettys Station Va  Oct 13th 1863

My Dear Wife

i received your kind and welcome letter today and i was very glad to hear that your well and injoying good health as this leaves me at present.  i am very glad that you can keep up your heart and be so cheerful for it would greave me very much if you should fret about what cannot be helpt.  when we parted at the Baltimore depot i could scarcly speak  for a hour the words choked in my throt  but never mind  ten months will soon slip around and then we will meet to part no more.

i am glad as you say that you will Disapoint the Folks in what we spoke about before i left.

i am very glad that Lib Smith has got a man at Last and i guess you are able to out live a Dozen such as her at least i hope so.

in this letter is three Photographs  two of myself and the other one is Joseph B. West my companion in arms  one of mine is for you and one for my sister Margreat  i will mark the one for her.  you must keep Wests picture and mine and dont part with them on no account.

Dear Wife  i have no news to send  our company is Going on picket in the morning  all is well.  Give my Love to Sister Margreat  Mother  Jane and all the Family
