My Dear Wife

I received your kind and welcome letter today and i was very glad to hear that you was still injoying good health as this leaves me at present.  it is rather doubtful wether i shall get home or not  my application for leave to come home has not been forwarded to Gen Butler yet.  but it will be in a day or two so it will be another week before i shall know wether i shall come home or not.  at any rate i shall not leave here until it comes back approved or disapproved

i would like Very Much to come home but if they dont approve my leave of absence of course i cannot come  but if they approve it i shall have 20 days of Happyness at home with you.  Maggie  you must not be disapointed if i do not come for you may be sure i will come if i can.

I have nothing new to add  i will have to come to a close hoping this will find you and Lizzie and all the family injoying the Best of health

i Remain as Ever
Your Affectionate Husband
Wm Lancaster
