My Dear Wife

I received your kind letter yuesterday and i was very Sorry to hear that Lizzie was so very sick  i hope she is much the better by this time  i suppose this hot weather goes very hard with children.  but i hope she will be much better when you receive this letter.  i am Paitiantly waiting for my furlough  i am Expecting it here every day and i hope Gen Butler will have the Goodness to endorse it  but i think i shall get it in a day or two but i am not sure that it will be approved and you must not be disapointed if i do not come  but i hope it will be all right for i would love very much to come home and Spend a few weeks with you.  but a few more days will tell wether i shall come home or not

i have nothing new to send  i am injoying the Best of health and i hope this will find you injoying the same Blessing and that Lizzie is much improved.  i must now close hoping to see you soon
