Camp Hamilton May 8th 1862

My Dear Wife

 i received your kind and ever welcome letter and i was glad to hear that you was better  i only hope that your breasts will get well. i am in a great hurry just now  i have not time to write a letter but i thought i would write a few lines to let you know the now there has been a fight this afternoon at sewells point  we have shelled the rebels out and our Brigade is ordred to march at a minutes notice  we have got all of our tents down and we are ready for the word march

i belive that we are going to Norfolk but i am not sure  when you write again Direct your letter the same as you always and it will reach me as usal though i do not know where i Shall be by that time

i am well and in good health and i hope to keep so this war wont last long  i hope soon to be at home once more with my Dear Wife
