Camp Hamilton May 10th 1862

My Dear Wife

i write to inform you that our Rigement is back at Camp Hamilton after we had packed our saddles and tyed up our tents and sleeped out all night  we was told to put up our tents again  so i suppose we will have to stop here for the same as usal  i do not think now that we will leave here at all though i did think so day before yuesterday  the Merrimac was out and exchanged a few shots with the Monitor and some of our other War Vessels shelled Sewells point

i did expect to do some fighting during this war but i think that the chances for a fight with me is very slim

i think that McClellan will take all of the fight out of the Rebels before he is done with them

i have no news to send you  everything has got quiete today  i have no more to say at present

Dear Maggie  i am the same to you that i ever was

Your Affectionate Husband
